By the time "Murray the K in New York" aired in 1967, Murray had introduced rock on the FM dial and was “mainstreaming” rock on TV. “Murray the K in New York” integrated on-location rock performances with the choreography and shtick of TV variety shows, cameo appearances by Joe Namath, Marty Allen, and Ed Sullivan, and mime and dance routines by Murray himself – not exactly what was expected from the faceless ranks of most 1960s D.J.s. The pseudo-neo-mock-quasi space aliens who appear throughout the show are led by Murray's wife (known, of course, as Jackie the K) and the Dancing Girls.
